Head Coach

Matt Griffiths begins his fourth season as head coach with the SUNY New Paltz baseball team in 2008-09, after spending two seasons as an assistant coach for the Hawks from 2004-06.
In two seasons, he has amassed a record of 37-41 overall and 10-18 in SUNYAC. Griffiths has coached six all-conference selections and three all-region players.

Griffiths was a two-year member of the Marist program who helped lead the Red Foxes to a MAAC Championship and an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2002.

In a two-year Division I career, Griffiths swiped 17 bases and had 15 doubles and 22 extra base hits. A solid fielder as well, Griffiths did not make an error as a senior and finished with a career fielding percentage of .981.

Following his playing career at Marist, Griffiths stayed on with the program as a member of the coaching staff. He worked with the Red Foxes outfielders and assisted with the program's recruiting efforts.

Prior to playing at Marist, Griffiths was a centerfielder at Skyline Junior College in San Bruno, CA where he earned all-league honors and finished fourth in the state in hitting.

Griffiths earned a degree in history from Marist in 2002.

Jesse Marsh

Jesse Marsh
Assistant Coach

Jesse Marsh enters his second season as an assistant coach for the Hawks, after spending the last two seasons on the field in a uniform. A native of Marlboro, Marsh was a staple at the shortstop position for two seasons after transferring from Dutchess Community College. In a Hawk uniform, he started all 78 games, totalling 130 putouts and 179 assists. He has hit .330 over the past two seasons with 94 hits, 60 runs and 34 RBIs. At Dutchess, he spent a year at first base before transitioning to shortstop. He hit over .300 both seasons and served as the team captain for a year.
For the past two seasons, Marsh has served as an assistant coach for the Newburgh Nuclears American legion baseball team. He earned his bachelor degree in elementary education with a concentration in history.

Tom McTamaney

Tom McTamaney
Pitching Coach

Coach McTamaney begins his fifth season with the SUNY New Paltz baseball staff as the pitching coach. Coach McTamaney spent five seasons as the Associate Head Coach at SUNY Dutchess Community College. While at Dutchess, Coach McTamaney served as the teams Pitching Coach and was also responsible for coordinating and assisting with recruiting efforts. In his five seasons, Dutchess made three consecutive appearances in the NJCAA Division III World Series.

Prior to his assignment at SUNY Dutchess, Coach McTamaney was the Head Baseball Coach at Mount St. Mary College located in Newburgh, NY from 1994 through 1999. In that span, the Mount won multiple Skyline and Knickerbocker Conference titles. He amassed 146 victories in six seasons as Head Coach, currently the school record. His crowning achievement was leading the Mount to their first two NCAA Division III Regional appearances in his final two seasons. In 1999, Coach McTamaney's program received its first National recognition by finishing the season ranked 23rd in the American Baseball Coaches Association/Collegiate Baseball NCAA Division III Poll.

McTamaney has been employed by the IBM Corp. for the past 28 years, most recently as a Corporate Global Commodity Manager.
