Student-Athlete Mentors (SAM's)
The Student-Athlete Mentors program was first initiated in the Fall of 2000. It is a program designed to train our selected student-athletes as Certified Peer Educators. Each team selects two - three student-athletes to participate in the program.
With the support and programming from the Bacchus & Gamma Peer Education Network, the student-athletes attend sessions and learn about various topics including:
The teams that have SAM members will be able to use their SAM's to help them with difficult situations that they may face while they are here at New Paltz. The program teaches the students about issues that they may have to deal with throughout their college career and beyond.
Currently we have 15 SAM's within our department who have been trained and certified as "Peer Educators"! Our current SAM's are now being trained to present our "Alcohol Responsibility Program" to their fellow student-athletes.
If you are interested in becoming a SAM, or want to find out more information, ask your coach or see Coach Bruley at x3918!
