Women’s swimmer Melinda Pullen (New City/Clarkstown South) and men’s basketball player Lee Bertram (Bayport/Bayport-Blue Point) have been selected as the SUNY New Paltz student-athletes of the week for the week ending January 20th.

Melinda Pullen won the 1000 free in a personal best time of 11:03.90 in the 113-87 win over Stevens Tech. She also took third in the 500 free (5:29.67). On Saturday, Pullen was a double winner at the RPI invite to help the Hawks to a second place team finish. She won the 1000 free (11:04.31) and the 500 free (5.26.96).
Lee Bertram led the Hawks to a 1-1 week including a thrilling overtime win against Buffalo State. It is the first time New Paltz has defeated Buffalo State since December of 2000. Bertram netted 14 points and grabbed five rebounds in the loss against Fredonia and led the Hawks with 21 points and eight boards in the 75-74 win over Buffalo State. He shot 58.3% from the field and 77.7% from the line on the week.
