Rob Bruley
Head Coach
Head coach Rob Bruley has led the New Paltz women’s tennis program to unprecedented success as a dominant force in the SUNYAC League since taking the reins in 1998. Bruley has created a winning attitude within the program and has led the team to a 94-58 record in 11 seasons. He is also the most successful coach in the history of the program as he accounts for 71.8% of the wins.
Under his direction, New Paltz has made its two appearances in the NCAA Tournament (2007 and 2008) and won three SUNYAC titles (2002, 2006, and 2007). Bruley is a three-time SUNYAC League “Coach of the Year” award recipient (2002, 2004 and 2006). He guided his team to three consecutive appearances in the New York State Women’s Collegiate Athletic Association (NYSWCAA) Tournament.
For the first time in his career, Bruley has mentored the SUNYAC MVP in Dana Lim (2008), while placing 39 others on the all-conference teams. Five players from the 2008 squad earned all-star status in the SUNYAC League. He has coached the SUNYAC Chancellor-Scholar Athlete three times in Kerry Serkes (2007 and 2008) and Rebecca Sparacin (2003).
Under Bruley’s guidance, the Hawks have established themselves as one of the top tennis programs in the Northeast. New Paltz has consistently placed individuals and doubles teams into the semifinals and finals of the SUNYAC Championship Tournament and have produced 17 individual and seven doubles champions.
From the beginning of his tenure as head coach, Bruley has developed a reputation for taking young, raw talent and producing talented tennis players by the ends of their careers. He has also shown he can turn talented players into one of the most competitive and respected teams in the SUNYAC Conference.
A native of England, Bruley was a standout athlete in soccer, squash and tennis. His time as an athlete and a coach at the international level includes five years with the Corinthian Casuals Soccer Club. He has also been the head men’s and women’s squash coach at Bard College and spends his summers coaching at the Lake Placid Soccer Center.
